Objects for the creation of silence
Objects for the creation of silence took place in december of 2021 in the vaulted rotten attic of the building in which the artists, Pedro Tinôco and I, worked for the six months after we left university. Underneath the square of the Lisbon Cathedral, the yellow moldy walls absorbed the images that resulted from our shared time, as we influenced each other, and the building and city influenced us. Paintings on tupperware lids, coat hangers and and many varied objects found on the streets of Lisbon. The works conveyed both the darkness, uncertainty, doubt and the light playful boldness of the beginning of an art practice, as Pedro and I worked out through the seriousness, the irony, the mysteriousness and beauty of objects and images that surrounded us. Novalis wrote that “All beloved objects are the centre of a paradise”. We believed it.
